Below is an excerpt from the Ol’ Curiosities Book Shoppe website about Janice Law’s upcoming book signing.

Janice Law’s American Evita: Lurleen Wallace

American Evita is a narrative, non-fiction book that weaves the stories of political figures Evita Perón and Lurleen Wallace together beautifully, offering insight into the characters, drives, and ultimate successes of both the Argentinean radio actress and the small-town Alabama girl, both of whom married men (Juan Perón and George Wallace, respectively) who sought and gained power, and both of whom would come into their own politically as young women.   Evita also divulges the life-threatening secret that was kept from both women by the men they loved and the way each handled learning that secret with ultimate grace and clear social conscience.

American Evita: Lurleen Wallace Receives A Glowing Review

April 21, 2015 By AnthonyWashington

Janice Law’s newest book “American Evita: Lurleen Wallace” received a glowing review from the Ol’ Curiosities & Book Shoppe in Monroe, AL.

Below are some excerpts from the review.

Common Threads

Janice Law’s expert penning of American Evita: Lurleen Wallace is a unique look at two women, distanced in both time and geography. Law points out common threads in the lives of Eva Duarte, Argentinean radio actress turned politician and philanthropist, and Lurleen Burroughs Burns Wallace, dime-store clerk turned governor of Alabama.

Waiting, Watching & Learning

American Evita: Lurleen Wallace details the trials and tribulations of both women, along with anecdotal information about the men they loved and supported—men that they catapulted to political success, while waiting, watching, and learning in the background. With these lessons came notoriety and love from the public. Each woman sought to make the world around her better once her influence was established. Each woman also made an impact within a limited amount of time, unaware of the fatal diagnoses that they would eventually face.

Vantage Point

Readers of American Evita: Lurleen Wallace by Janice Law are given a fascinating vantage point, not only of the political struggles that Eva and Lurleen found themselves reeling from, but also of the dynamics of their relationships with powerful men. While Eva Perón and Lurleen Wallace were extremely different in motivation and demeanor, they shared a similar plight as they made their ways to their own political pinnacles. Janice Law outlines these journeys.

The full review can be read at Ol’ Curiosities & Book Shoppe website.

Janice Law & American Evita: Lurleen Wallace in the Montgomery Advertiser

April 20, 2015 By AnthonyWashington

Author Janice Law made an appearance at the 10th Annual Alabama Book Festival. While there, Janice was interviewed by Rebecca Burylo of Montgomery Advertiser about her new book “American Evita: Lurleen Wallace”. Below is an excerpt from the article.

This was Janice Law’s first time coming to the festival. She released one of her books Wednesday, “American Evita: Lurleen Wallace.” Many in the Montgomery area are familiar with George Wallace, a former governor of Alabama who was an outspoken segregationist during the civil rights movement.

Lurleen Wallace was his wife. She too ran for political office.

“I wanted to write a biography and I wanted to write about a woman,” Law said. “When I thought of Lurleen, she was perfect. She was a woman who ran for office, but she was also married to a difficult and colorful man. She was courageous when courage was a dangerous thing.”

Law was a religious journalist during the civil rights movement and covered church gatherings in the South and thought Lurleen’s story inspiring. She hopes others are inspired as well.
